The effects of millimetre waves on lipid membrane

چکیده
The potential effects of millimetre waves (MMW) radiation attract strong attention today due to the increasing number of emerging civil and military applications of millimetre waves [1]. Commercial telecommunication systems are now under development for applications in the next-generation wireless digital networks (e.g., WirelessHD). Therefore, questions about safety for users in domestic and professional environments are of major concern. On the other hand, the interaction of MMW radiation with biological systems is a topic of great interest; many of the vibrational modes in complex bio-molecules fall in the 1 GHz to 100 GHz range [2]. In this frequency range there are also significant parts of the intermolecular vibrational/librational modes of water, fluctuations of atoms in organic molecules and hydrogen bonds. These frequencies correspond to atomic group rotations and displacements that are connected with conformation changes of bio-molecules [3]. Biologically relevant processes can therefore be initiated using radiation in this frequency range. However, no clear mechanisms have been proposed.

P-149: Antioxidant Effects of Dietary Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Extract on The Rooster Semen Performance and Sperm Quality
Background: Exposure of sperm membranes to Reactive Oxygen Species induces lipid peroxidation causing membrane breakdown and loss of function. A rosemary extract as dietary additive was assayed for antioxidant effectiveness to improve the quality of rooster semen. Although rosemary extract has been evaluated for in vitro study of semen preservation, up to date no study has been conducted to exa...
متن کاملImpact of low intensity millimetre waves on cell functions
Investigations on the biological impact of low levels of millimetrewave energy date back to the first experiments on the generation and detection of these high-frequency signals by Sir Jagadis Chunder Bose at the end of the 19th century. Slightly more than a hundred years later, millimetre-wave transmission has become a ubiquitous commercial reality. Despite the widespread use of millimetre-wav...
متن کاملAnticancer Effects of Moderate Static Magnetic Field on Cancer Cells in Vitro
Background: Expansion of the use of magnetic fields in metals, mining, transport, research, and medicine industries has led to a discussion about the effects of magnetic fields and whether their strength is negligible. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of magnetic field on the viability and proliferation rate of HeLa cells. Materials and methods: We studied the effects of ma...
متن کاملAlleviation of Adverse Effects of Copper on Allium cepa L. by Exogenous Ascorbic Acid Application
Abstract In this study ameliorative effects of ascorbic acid (0.5 mM) on onion (Allium cepa L. cv. Red Azarshahr) under copper stress (Cu: 6.5 μM) were studied. Fresh weights of leaves and roots were reduced in seven week old plants under excess copper condition. Cu stress also reduced membrane stability index in leaves. There was a considerable increase in H2O2 content and lipid peroxidation i...
متن کاملAmeliorating effects of genestein: Study on mice liver glutathione and lipid peroxidation after irradiation
Background: Genistein is a soya isoflavone, which is found naturally in legumes, such as soybeans and chickpeas. Radiation–induced free radicals in turn impair the antioxidative defense mechanism, leading to an increased membrane lipid peroxidation that results in damage of the membrane bound enzyme and may lead to damage or death of cell. Hence, the lipid peroxidation is a good biomar...
